Dr Aliyu Abubakar developed an early passion for technology. He earned a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Gombe State University in 2012, followed by an M.Sc. in Cyber Security and a Ph.D. in Machine Learning from the University of Bradford, UK, in 2015 and 2023, respectively.

Professional Career

Aliyu is currently a Lecturer in Computer Science at Teesside University. Previously, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Liverpool from June 2022 to May 2024. At Liverpool, he focused on analyzing partial discharge in high-voltage equipment using advanced machine learning and computer vision techniques, designing innovative algorithms for real-time detection and monitoring of partial discharge events, and pioneering data acquisition methods.

Prior to this, Aliyu led a twin recognition project at Gombe State University and developed mental stress disorder analysis algorithms at Aiberry Inc. His role as a Research Assistant at the University of Bradford involved enhancing liver donor organ viability assessments using deep learning models.

Aliyu has served on program committees for international conferences and as a reviewer for prestigious journals. Outside of work, Aliyu enjoys football, badminton, and traveling, maintaining a balanced lifestyle alongside his professional and academic commitments.
