Academic Biography

Up to speed and down to earth teaching at Teesside University since 1994.

I currently teach the following modules:

  • Current Issues in Business Ethics and CSR (final year undergraduate)
  • Human Resource Planning (postgraduate module on MA HRM)
  • Re-imagining Sustainable Management in Global Markets

Each year I supervise 20  or so dissertation students - over the last 30 years I have supervised around 550-600 or so dissertations.

Teaching Awards

  • 2009: Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Roll of Honour (Tees Valley Branch), the citation read “For his professional and innovative contribution to high quality teaching in Human Resources”.
  • 2005: University of Teesside Rewarding Excellence Award. I received one of only 25 awards made across the University.

Work History

Since 1994: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Teesside Business School, University of Teesside.

Between 1990-1993, I was a Personnel and Training Officer at Lucas Diesel Systems, Gillingham, Kent.

Prior to going to University as an undergraduate in 1986, I spent 3 years as a clerical officer in the Civil Service in Central London.

Qualifications

Chartered MCIPD. (No: 00390564). Full corporate chartered member. (I have been a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development for 30 years having joined the old Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) at the age of 19 / 20 when I was a part-time evening student on the IPM stage 1 at the College for Distributive Trades in London).
