I have been employed at Teesside University as a Senior Lecturer In Mental health and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Since 2015. Prior to this I worked as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN) (Specialist Practitioner in Community mental health) and Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS trust (TEWV) from 1996 – 2015. During this previous role I worked in many areas of adult mental health Including; Acute admissions wards, community teams, crisis teams, Liaison psychiatry, Assertive outreach, Primary care, Secondary care Psychology services and Improving access to psychological therapies services (IAPT). I have a vast amount of experience in a variety of aspects of community mental health. In 2004 I completed further training to become an accredited Cognitive Behavioural therapist and following this worked in therapy based services. I continue to practice as a Cognitive Behavioural therapist.
My current role as Senior Lecturer at Teesside University is primary focused around the delivery of the Pg Dip CBT Programme at Darlington site. This involves training High intensity CBT therapists over an 18 month programme. This is an intense programme but highly rewarding.
I am also a module leader for one the Pre reg Nursing ( Mental Health) modules. Alongside this I have a role as zoned academic and complete tripartite meetings with students out on placement in local NHS/Private organisations. I also have a number of personal tutees in the mental health nursing programme.
I enjoy working at Teesside University and am passionate about improving the mental health of the population through this role alongside providing high standards in teaching and learning.
