Academic Biography

Atakan is a PhD researcher, visual communication designer, and lecturer.

Currently pursuing his PhD at Teesside University with a PGR scholarship, Atakan's research focuses on integrating play, playfulness, and role-playing game features into art museums to enhance adult visitor engagement and experiences.

He earned his MA degree in Digital Media from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Germany, graduating with distinction in 2022. Atakan completed his BA in Visual Communication Design with honours at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2016 as a merit-based scholarship recipient. He also studied Film Studies for one semester at the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK, with an EU grant in 2014.

Atakan previously worked as a Research Assistant, UX/Game Design team member, and User Test Lead for the EU-funded game project "Sofias Smuggling" across eight museums in Germany and the Netherlands.

Learning and Teaching Interests and Activities

In 2023, Atakan received Associate Fellow (AFHEA) recognition for the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education.
