I started my PhD within the School of Health and Life Sciences in 2019 under the supervision of Professor Leah Avery, Professor Alan Batterham and Professor Darren Flynn.
I am a certified Clinical Exercise Phsyiologist under the American College of Sport Medicine. Prior to this I completed my Masters (Msc) degree in Clincial Exercise Phsyiology. The aim of my PhD research is to develop and evaluate a theory-informed evidence-based behavioural intervention targeting increasing daily physical activtiy levels in heart failure patients. The purpose of the research is to firstly quantify how physically active heart failure patients are, secondly address physical activtiy levels within heart failure patients by exploring the information and support reuqired by patients to make increases to their physical activity levels, thus improving their quality of life and symptoms. Finally, evaluating the effectiveness of the intervention assessment methods.
The research been conducted throughout my PhD involves a collaborative approach with patients which has proven to be effective in identifying their barriers and facilitaors to engaging in behaviour. This provides insight on how to optimally engage patients and improve their uptake and adherence to interventions.
