Professor Chrisina Jayne is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement & Partnerships. She brings over 25 years of experience in UK higher education, with an established track record in academic leadership, curriculum innovation, and enhancing student success. Her academic background is rooted in applied mathematics and computing science, and her research centres on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and neural networks.
Professor Jayne is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Chartered IT Professional, and a Fellow of the British Computer Society. She was also awarded a UK National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of her excellence and leadership in learning and teaching.
Chrisina's recent research relates to developing and applying novel methods for artificial neural networks, machine learning and artificial intelligence. She authored over 80 peer reviewed papers in international journals and at leading conferences.
Chrisina has been involved in many activities of the International Neural Network Society (INNS) as an elected member of the Board of Governors for the society and currently serves as the President-Elect for the society. She has been the coordinator of the Special Interest Group of Engineering Applications of Neural Networks (EANN) since 2009 and has chaired the Engineering Applications of Neural Network Conferences in 2012, 2014 and 2016, technically sponsored by INNS. Chrisina was the Program Chair of the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN) in 2017 and a General Co-Chair for IJCNN 2019. IJCNN is one of the largest conferences in the world in Artificial Neural Networks. Chrisina served as Technical Co-Chair for the WCCI 2020.
Chrisina is on the editorial board of the Springer journal “Neural Computing and Applications” and associate editor for “IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems.
Chrisina has interests in projects related to application of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods in engineering, business and education. She has been involved in projects related to handling and working with unstructured documents, including text documents, images and other data modalities; creating a digitization platform for processing, detecting and classifying symbols in engineering drawings; developing an intelligent adaptive feedback for students and mobile learning.
