Academic Biography

As a Scientific Officer working at National Horizons Centre (NHC), Claire specialises in using analytical chromatography and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instrumentation to investigate and develop a variety of biomedical, biopharmaceutical and biotechnological research applications.

With a background in biomedical sciences, biochemistry and molecular biology, plus over 10 years post-doctoral experience, Claire has gained significant analytical expertise in qualitative and quantitative measurement of small molecules, metabolites, peptides and proteins within purified samples or complex biological matrices.

Claire joined NHC in 2021 and previously performed mass spectrometry to support fragment based drug discovery at the Newcastle University CRUK Drug Discovery Unit. In this post, she made significant data contributions towards the development of a Phase I/II candidate drug molecule (ASTX295) in collaboration with Astex Biopharmaceuticals.

Claire also worked in the Newcastle Cancer Centre Pharmacology Group, carrying out pharmacokinetic analysis to quantitate drug levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy during clinical trials.
