Personal profile

Academic Biography

I am currently undertaking a PhD exploring the feasibility of exergaming among a post-surgical lung cancer population in order to improve balance and reduce fall prevalence, which is due for completion by November 2020. My previous education has included a master's and bachelor's degree at the University of Sunderland, between 2010 and 2014, in Sport and Exercise Sciences, where I achieved a Distinction and 2:1, respectively.

As part of my current graduate tutor role at Teesside University, I have been involved in the teaching and delivery of the module Clinical Anatomy and Biomechanics for the Sports Therapist, whereby I was the first point of contact for undergraduate students undertaking this module, providing advice and feedback and also assessing students' work in line with the assessment criteria.

Arising from this PhD so far, I have a systematic review published in BMC Cancer, entitled:

-The Feasibility, Acceptability and Outcomes of Exergaming among Individuals with Cancer: a Systematic Review. I am also hopeful that two more articles will be published from the work carried out within this PhD.

Following from my master's dissertation in Sport and Exercise Science in 2014, the results of this work were also published in a journal article with Games for Health.

-Assessing the physiological cost of active video games (Xbox Kinect) versus sedentary video games in young healthy males

I am also a co-author on other research which was presented at the ERS conference in 2019:

-The association of comorbid pain with incident falls in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

My interests lie within both sport and exercise science disciplines, lung cancer rehabilitation and also the use of exergaming as an intervention method.
