Research interests

Dr David Norris is Associate Dean (Marketing and Recruitment) within Teesside University Business School. As part of this role he is responsible for leading on marketing and recruitment across the portfolio within the newly re-established Business School. David has over 10 years’ worth of experience working within Business Schools and has spent over 5 years operating as part of a School's senior management team.

David's academic interests lie in the areas of strategic marketing, innovation, business growth and digital marketing. David has extensive teaching experience in each of these areas and still contributes to teaching activity within the School. He also has extensive experience of curriculum development having previously overseen portfolio review, design, development and implementation activity at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including working with a number of Professional bodies in terms of accreditation.

In 2018 David was awarded a professional doctorate (DBA) where his research focussed on the role of innovation orientation within high growth medium sized businesses. David has published in journals, trade based publications and produced book chapters for academic books, as well as having presented his research at various academic conferences.

In addition David has experience of international partnership development and collaboration having established international partnerships linked with business education in countries such as UAE, USA, Switzerland, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. David also has experience of designing, delivering and implementing online programmes having previously overseen large business and management based post experience programmes to learners all around the world.

Alongside his role within Teesside University Business School David works with businesses as a consultant and mentor on a range of varied and interesting projects. His enterprise and consultancy interests lie in helping businesses of any size grow effectively through the use of marketing strategy, technology and innovation. David has achieved the status of Chartered Manager (CMgr) with the Chartered Management Institute and has extensive experience of management and leadership.

Prior to arriving at Teesside University Business School in early 2018, David had been responsible for developing and launching York Business School, where he held the position of Head of Department and then latterly Deputy Dean.
