Academic Biography
Dr. Faezeh Bagheri-Moghaddam is a lecturer in project management at Teesside University’s School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies and a contributing member of the Centre for Construction, Innovation and Research (CCIR). Her academic journey bridges practical and theoretical areas, focusing on sustainable building practices, future energy and energy-efficient development.
Prior to her current role, Faezeh worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Architecture at the University of Strathclyde. There, she played a role in the EPSRC-funded project 'GLOW - ENERGY NESTED BIO SYSTEM FLOWS FROM THE HOME TO THE HUB.' This innovative project aimed to develop a socially intelligent computational system for facilitating effective communication of household energy demands at the community level, fostering equitable and dynamic energy utilisation strategies.
Faezeh earned her international PhD in Architectural, Civil, and Urban Heritage and Refurbishment of Existing Buildings from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in January 2022. Her dissertation, titled 'Urban Vertical Garden: Enhancing Living Conditions through Green Façades in Building Refurbishment in a Semi-arid Climate,' examined the impact of green façades as a double-skin on thermal comfort, energy consumption, and heating and cooling loads in building envelopes and urban environments. Her research notably utilised advanced building simulation techniques to evaluate the effectiveness of various building envelope strategies and double-skin façades designed with specific materials, structures and cavity dimensions.
During her doctoral studies, Faezeh also served as a visiting scholar at the University of Canberra. Her collaboration there focused on the use of generative and parametric design methodologies for double-skin façades incorporating micro-algae to improve air quality, enhance thermal comfort, and reduce pollution in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Summary of Research Interests
Faezeh’s research is at the forefront of addressing critical challenges in the context of net-zero targets, decarbonisation, energy transition, and the ongoing global energy crisis. Her work meticulously integrates the technical aspects of energy systems with a deep understanding of societal impacts and the collective social capabilities necessary for sustainable transformation. Focusing on these interdisciplinary intersections, she contributes to the development of energy solutions that are not only efficient but also equitable and socially inclusive.
The significance of her research extends beyond traditional boundaries. Her projects emphasise the development of sustainable and inclusive energy practices that are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, her work supports SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by promoting advanced energy systems that ensure access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy for all, while also supporting sustainable urban development and climate action initiatives.
Moreover, her research contributes to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and communities to tackle global challenges collaboratively. Through her studies and practical implementations, Faezeh aims to drive innovation in energy efficiency and resource management, advocating for a balance between human needs and environmental stewardship. Her ultimate goal is to promote prosperity, enhance environmental sustainability, and ensure social equity, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future.
