Academic Biography
Faezeh is a lecturer in the School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies at Teesside University. With an academic background in architecture, her work spans sustainable building practices, digital and intelligent design, and the future of energy-efficient development.
Before joining Teesside, she was a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Architecture at the University of Strathclyde, contributing to the EPSRC-funded project GLOW, which explored socially intelligent computational systems for managing household and community energy demand.
Faezeh completed her international PhD at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona, where her research examined how green façade systems can improve thermal comfort, reduce energy consumption, and support building refurbishment in semi-arid climates. Her work involved advanced building-performance simulation and the evaluation of double-skin façade strategies. She has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Canberra, where she collaborated on parametric and generative design approaches for micro-algae façade systems aimed at improving air quality and thermal performance in built environments.
Summary of Research Interests
Faezeh's research sits at the intersection of digital fabrication, intelligent design, and the broader transition toward sustainable and low-carbon futures. She works on advanced applications of additive manufacturing and automated construction, AI-driven design workflows, and the integration of AI-BIM systems in architectural and urban projects. Alongside the technical focus, her work also examines the social dimensions of energy transition, including collective capabilities, equity, and the ways communities engage with emerging technologies.
Across these areas, she investigates how digital methods, material innovation, and data-informed decision making can support net-zero goals, improve building performance, and shape more resilient and inclusive built environments. Her research aims to connect technological progress with social value, ensuring that future energy and design systems are efficient, accessible, and grounded in real human needs.
PhD and Research Opportunities
Faezeh’s research and PhD supervision focus on the intersection of sustainable built environments, digital design, and emerging construction technologies. Her work brings together digital fabrication, additive manufacturing, AI-driven design workflows, and building performance analysis to address current challenges in low-carbon development, energy efficiency, and resilient urban futures. She is particularly interested in how advanced design methods and material innovation can support more sustainable architectural and engineering solutions, while also responding to social and environmental priorities. Her research also considers the wider human dimension of technological change, including questions of equity, collective capability, and the role of communities in shaping the energy transition. Through her PhD supervision, Faezeh supports research that connects technical innovation with practical impact in the built environment.
