Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Fahid Amin joined Teesside University as a lecturer of mechanical and aerospace engineering in November 2020. Before joining Teesside University, he has worked as a postdoctoral research associate for 2.5 years at Imperial College London. He has completed his PhD from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia, MSc from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, and BSc from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan.

Fahid's research work has been focused on reducing the global burden of pollutants. 

As a postdoctoral research associate at Imperial College London, his research was focused on understanding the smouldering combustion and its resulting emissions. He carried out sophisticated lab scale and field scale experiments using infrared diagnostics and fourier infrared spectroscopy to understand the smouldering combustion dynamics and gaseous emissions.

During his PhD, he investigated the influence of pressure on combustion generated particulate emissions (soot) using intrusive and non-intrusive diagnostics. He has gained extensive experience of designing high pressure rigs for combustion studies. He used multi-angle light scattering, laser induced incandescence, PAH-PLIF and thermophoretic sampling followed by transmission electron microscopy in pressurised environment to study soot morphology.

His research has been published in prestigeous journals including the Proceedings of The Combustion Institute and Combustion and Flame.
