In October 2024 Fiona was appointed as a Lecturer in Pharmacy at Teesside University. Fiona is contributing to the development of the MPharm programme within the School of Health and Life Sciences at TU, including content creation and delivery of teaching. Additionally, Fiona is research-active within the drug delivery and formulation space.
Previously, Fiona undertook an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow at The University of Nottingham exploring the capabilities of additive manufacturing for personalised drug delivery. Prior to that, Fiona completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham in the CDT for Transformative Pharmaceutical Technologies. Fiona's PhD research focussed on the transdermal delivery of insulin via microneedles, supervised by Dr Maria Marlow and Dr Frankie Rawson. The project was affiliated with Nemaura Pharma, Loughborough.
Fiona was awarded a Masters of Pharmacy from Cardiff University in 2017.
Fiona remains a UK-registered Pharmacist, a UK Science Council Registered Scientist and a member of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Whilst at The University of Nottingham, Fiona supported Pharmacy Practice seminars as a Pharmacy Practice Consultant. As part of this role, she provided both written and verbal feedback to MPharm students during simulated consultations. Additionally, Fiona marked OSCE stations for assessment.
Separately, Fiona supported laboratory sessions on both the MPharm and Pharmaceutical Sciences programmes, including tabletting and skin permeation practicals.
At Teesside University, Fiona is particularly interested in incorporating sustainability into the MPharm curriculum and understanding the value of using Anatomage in teaching the underpinning anatomy and physiology to MPharm students.
