Gail's career as a dental care professional began in 1988, when she started working as dental nurse in Middlesbrough; her ultimate goal was to become a dental hygienist. While working she travelled to New College Durham to study the national certificate for dental surgery assistants.
On successfully passing, she applied to dental schools for the dental hygiene courses. In 1992 she passed the diploma in dental hygiene at Newcastle dental hospital. Gail has worked in both private and NHS practices in the Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees and Redcar areas.
In 2007 she became a tutor dental hygienist at Newcastle dental hospital. She successfully completed her postgraduate certificate of education at Middlesbrough College in June 2009.
GailI started working at Teesside University as a Senior Lecturer in Dental Nursing in the new dental care professional team in October 2009. Her role is to contribute towards the development of the curriculum for the courses which Teesside is offering.
She is particularly enjoying her role as admissions tutor, which involves communicating with schools and colleges promoting the brand new dental course, and speaking to potential students. She is studying the BA (Hons) in Educational Studies to further develop her career and to enhance students' learning.
