Grace Bird

I am currently the Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography (Apprenticeship) course, delivered at Teesside University. I am also module lead for the third year Radiographic Practice module on the BSc Diagnostic Radiography (Undergraduate) course, as well as a shared Allied Health Professions module in Enhancing Employability and Professionalism across third year Apprenticeship courses in the School of Health and Life Sciences.

I am also a personal tutor as well as an Apprenticeship Academic Mentor.

I am currently a Reserve Officer Cadet in the British Army, as a Radiographer in the Royal Army Medical Services reserves. I have attested into this role and I am currently in training to become a commisioned reserve officer.

This role will allow me to be part of a wider military medical team diagnosing and treating casualties worldwide. I will have the opportunity to work independently in a wider Multi-Disciplinary team, whilst undertaking personal development and leadership opportunities.

I am part of the Radiology Across Borders mentorship program, linking radiology professionals in developing countries to imaging professionals in a developed nation. The mentorship program offers personalised practical support and learning, which I as the mentor tailor to the needs of the mentee and runs for three months at a time.

This role is hugely rewarding and allows both the sharing of knowledge and build of professional confidence, as well as a learning opportunity for me as the mentor into how best to support radiology provision worldwide whilst fostering my own mentorship skills.
