Academic Biography

Hannah studied for her Politics BA (Hons) at Newcastle University, where she enjoyed studying international politics and counter terrorism. In particular, the evolution of UK government’s counter terrorist policies and laws in the face of involving terrorist threats which was the focus of her 10,000-word dissertation.

Hannah progressed to study her Graduate Diploma in Law at Northumbria University. During this one-year law conversion course, she studied core law subjects and carried out her further area of law project on housing law. This focused on local authorities rehousing duties towards those fleeing domestic violence. Following this, Hannah continued at Northumbria University undertaking her Legal Practice Course and studied her Professional Skills Course at the University of Law.

In 2014, Hannah qualified as a Solicitor specialising in litigation. She has developed her practice and experience by working in litigation for a range of sized law firms, from high street to global commercial.

During her time in private practice, Hannah was actively involved in organising and promoting corporate social responsibility endeavours and passionate about raising awareness of the value and importance of pro bono work in legal practice. Hannah set up a pro bono law clinic at a local hospice in conjunction with LawWorks whilst she was working in private practice. 

Hannah became the Director of Clinical Legal Education in 2021 and is responsible for Teesside University Law Clinic. Teesside University Law Clinic offers valuable legal advice to Tees Valley’s community on a pro bono basis provided by law students under the supervision of solicitors. Hannah’s experience in legal practice gives students the opportunity to develop the employability skills that they will go on to use in practice. They benefit from her experience whilst working the Teesside University Law Clinic, where they work on real client cases under her supervision and mentorship.

Hannah is interested in maximising opportunities for students to develop their employability skills and forge links in preparation for their employment following graduation. Hannah's research interests are the measurement and evaluation of the impact of clinical legal education and pro bono law clinics.
