Personal profile

Academic Biography

Dr Humbul Suleman is a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the School of Computing, Engineering, and Digital Technologies. He is passionate about enabling his students to become the most employable professionals as chemical engineers. He is teaching various engineering modules to the students of BEng, MEng, and MSc Chemical Engineering (module list below).

Research-wise, Humbul is an expert in absorption and adsorption techniques for gas and liquid separations. He aspires to achieve net zero goals for the industrial/business sectors using carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), direct air capture (DAC), and Greenhouse Gas Removals (GGR). He also supports the commercial sector in terms of optimising the net-zero processes, via process modelling and simulation.

Research Projects & External Funding

Humbul's primary research has been funded by Innovate UK, CO2RE Greenhouse Gas Removals Network, The Royal Society UK, Marie Curie Sklodowska Actions, EU Horizon 2020, Yayasan UTP, PETRONAS Research, UTP STIRF, Royal Danish Academy, and P.A. Fiskers Fund across the timeline (2013 to date).

His research has resulted in 60+ peer-reviewed publications in well-known journals. Moreover, he has presented his research outcomes at various scientific and technical conferences, garnering many professional and academic accolades. Recently, he edited a book on sustainable carbon capture with CRC/Routledge Publishers.
