Academic Biography
Dr Humbul Suleman is a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the School of Computing, Engineering, and Digital Technologies. He is passionate about enabling his students to become the most employable professionals as chemical engineers. He is teaching many engineering modules to the students of BEng, MEng, and MSc Chemical Engineering that include Process Improvement and Optimisation, Control and Simulation, Mass and Energy Balances, Practical and Professional Skills, Practical Skills for Chemical Engineers, and Sustainability in Chemical Engineering.
Research wise, Humbul aspires to help the industrial and business sector in achieving their decarbonisation goals by developing cutting-edge research solutions in the field of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Besides his experimental work, he is supporting the commercial sector in terms of optimising their processes via process modelling and simulation.
Before joining Teesside University, he completed two post-doctoral trainings from the Technical University of Denmark and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia, where he also had his PhD in Chemical Engineering. Humbul has won the prominent publication award for his PhD research and was awarded twice with gold medals for his MSc and BSc in Chemical Engineering degrees. His primary research has been funded by The Royal Society UK, Marie Curie Sklodowska Actions, EU Horizon 2020, Yayasan UTP, PETRONAS Research, UTP STIRF, Royal Danish Academy, and P.A. Fiskers Fund across the timeline (2013 to date).
Humbul’s research has resulted in 50+ peer-reviewed publications in well-known journals. Moreover, he has presented his research outcomes at various scientific and technical conferences, garnering many professional and academic accolades. Recently, he edited a book on sustainable carbon capture with CRC/Routledge Publishers.
