Academic Biography

James Brady, is a comics writer and lecturer. His work has been published by Image Comics, Koguchi Press and by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

His academic journey began in 2016 on Teesside's Undergraduate Comics, Graphic Novels and Sequential Arts Course which he graduated from in 2019 with First Class Honours Degree. In 2020 he completed his Post Graduate Masters Degree in Comics and Graphic Novels Course, also with a First.

Having gained a grant from The LaunchPad Program, alongside fellow graduates, he founded an indie comics publisher, CoCo Comics. CoCo went on to publish a variety of comics both local and international and is where James published his first completed graphic novel, The Magicians Curse.

In 2021, James was hired to write and produce Green Kid, an eco-educational comic for children, each issue focuses on a different eco project and has received funding from The Royal Society of Chemistry, UKRI, Campus Des Metiers Et Des Qualifications D'Excellence, C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N and The UK Atomic Energy Authority.

He worked as a freelance social media content creator, administrative assistant and graphic designer for a number of social media companies, refugee and women's charities.

In 2022 James helped found CoCo Comic Con, which takes place in Lancaster bringing together independent comic creators from across the UK.

Around the same time James began his academic career as a lecturer on Teesside's Comics and Graphic Novels course.

He's since contributed to a number of comics publications such as The Koguchi Anthology, The Leeds Comics Collective Anthologies and Big Brown Eyes Collective.

In 2024 he began co-writing/ publishing what would become his most recognisable venture so far which is the superhero/ murder mystery comic series: The Stranger. James recently won runner up for his comic short story, Waxing, for Negative Space's 2025 Short Comics Competition. 

Most recently James' writing can be found as back up stories in the pages of Radiant Black from Image Comics.
