Academic Biography

Dr. Jianxin Gao obtained his PhD in solid mechanics at Tsinghua University (China) in 1989. He came to the UK in 2001, working as a research associate/fellow firstly in Imperial College London and then in Surrey University on medical image processing, biomechanics and biomedical engineering. He joined TWI in 2005, undertaking collaborative research on a wide range of engineering and medical subjects. Currently, Dr Gao is principal project leader at TWI Ltd and Director of the Healthcare Innovation Centre at Teesside University.

Since 2011, Dr Gao’s collaborative research work has attracted continuous grant from public funding progremmes (EU’s FP7 and H2020 programmes, and Innovate UK etc.). His current research interests include engineering mechanics, optical inspection techniques, non-destructive testing, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, rehabilitation and data/sensor based health care technologies.
