Academic Biography
Dr Jie Li is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies at Teesside University. His research expertise is concentrated in the areas of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Computer Vision. Before joining Teesside University, he worked in a digital healthcare company, THERAPYAUDIT Limited as the AI lead, to lead and develop a commercial project, which is a proactive and predictive monitoring system, particularly, for the department of rheumatology, NHS. He was also the co-founder and CTO of NewApex Ltd., and successfully led a team to develop an AI-based mobile app StreetAway in 2017.

His enterprise interests focus on the development and implementation of advanced AI-driven systems, demonstrating a strong commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and commercial innovation. Dr. Li plans to expand his research into the use of generative models for synthetic data generation and real-time system optimisation. He aims to collaborate with industry partners to develop research outputs that not only advance academic knowledge but also have direct applications in industry settings, such as the optimisation of industrial processes through generative AI.
