Jo Noble

Dr Jo Noble studied BSc (Hons) Mathematics at Teesside University and graduated in 1998 with a first class honours degree. She has worked as a senior programmer, systems analyst and project manager for CapGemini Ernst & Young, specialising in logistics and finance systems for the steel industry. Jo then went back to her maths roots and spent time as a Mathematical Engineer for MDC Technology, developing mathematical modelling software for use by petrochemical industries in the Middle East and America.

In 2002 Jo returned to the School of Computing as a lecturer, and now teaches software development, and systems analysis and design to the next generation entering industry. She does however continue to engage in projects with industry and enterprise, believing the experience provides unique, learning opportunities for both her and her students.

In 2014 Jo successfully completed her PhD - IS Project Management: An Interpretive View of IS Project Failure in the Stakeholders' Domain. This research sparked a love of Information Visualisation, a relatively new subject area which together with Big Data has grown phenomenally. The School of Computing is the first school to develop pathways in this area and Jo was a part of the team that lead the design of the courses. In parallel Jo has also become increasingly involved in consultancy work in this field working with regional businesses that are investing in innovative Big Data or Info Vis projects.

Jo is currently a Principal Lecturer in External Events, and enjoys being able to showcase the School of Computing that she has proudly belonged to for the last 20 years, at events such as Animex and ExpoTees.
