Academic Biography

 Dr ABEMGNIGNI NJIFON Marianne is a postdoc research associate and part-time lecturer at Teesside University, where she leads a BBSRC funded research project on data- and model-driven attention-based integration of imaging, proteomics, and metabolic modelling. She equally contributes to several interdisciplinary projects on explainability and multimodal data integration of spatial omics data, with various biological and cancer research application.

 

Dr. Marianne recently completed her German Research Foundation-funded PhD from the University of Goettingen, where she worked on Graph convolutional networks for the interpolation of spatially correlated data. Prior to this, she was awarded a Google and Facebook scholarship to complete a masters in Machine Intelligence as well as a Mastercard Foundation’s scholarship to complete a master’s in mathematical sciences. Her background also includes non-linear optics, where she previously conducted research on short laser pulse propagation in non-linear media and presented her results in various international gatherings.

Dr. Marianne is currently involved in the organization of renowned conferences such as Deep Learning Indaba and serves as program committee of the algorithmic fairness workshop, which is co-located with top-tier conferences such as Neurips and ICLR. Additionally, she is part of the PGR Research club at the National Horizons Centre and volunteers in several activities that promote ethical AI knowledge sharing.
