Academic Biography
Nathan is a Senior Lecturer of Physiotherapy at Teesside University. As well as a qualified physiotherapist he is a Fellow of Advance HE and CATE award winner.
Prior to working in academia, Nathan spent 8 years working in an Elite Sport environment with Middlesbrough FC. Nathan initially joined Teesside University as a clinical supervisor on the Sports Therapy & Rehab course at Teesside University. One of Nathan's main responsibilities was to lead and improve the Sports Injury Rehabilitation Clinic, which he successfully achieved.
Together with his football experience he has extensive experience working with multiple sports and vast experience of rehabilitation and private physiotherapy practice.
Summary of Research Interests
Alongside his teaching duties Nathan is keen to research in his chosen area of injury prevention. Nathan would always welcome expressions of interest to collaborate on research.
Nathan is currently part-way through a PhD which is exploring the use of exercise-based injury prevention programmes for recreational runners.
External Roles and Professional Activities
Nathan is currently the lead physiotherapist for a semi-professional football club in the north-east of England. He is also the lead physiotherapist for the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme at Teesside University, working with young athletes from a variety of sporting backgrounds. Nathan is also the lead physiotherapist for two professional boxers who compete Internationally.
Nathan also works part-time as a physiotherapist in private practice.
