Dr. Nazanin Moazzen is a lecturer in Building Service Engineering at the School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies (SCEDT) at Teesside University. She is a member of the CIBSE NE Committee Group and the Centre for Construction, Innovation and Research (CCIR) at SCEDT. Dr. Moazzen's academic background is in Architecture, and her research focuses on construction science, specifically in sustainability, Building Energy Performance, Building Energy Retrofit, Life Cycle Energy, Cost Assessment, and Thermal and Visual Comfort.
Previously, she served as an Associate Lecturer in the Built Environment at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at Northumbria University. During her tenure there, she contributed to various modules focused on sustainable technology and environmental practices. Dr. Moazzen also has nearly six years of experience teaching undergraduate courses in the Architecture and Design Department as an Assistant Professor at Maltepe University.
As an Erasmus Mundus scholar, Dr. Moazzen was involved with the Technology Energy Building Environment (TEBE) research office at Politecnico di Torino. She completed her master's degree at Istanbul Technical University in the Environmental Control and Construction Technology Program. Her thesis was titled “An Approach for Cost-Optimum Energy-Efficient Retrofit of Primary School Buildings in Turkey.”
Dr. Moazzen earned her PhD in Construction Sciences from Istanbul Technical University in 2020. Her doctoral research focused on the influence of Embodied Energy and Carbon on Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEBs). Her thesis, "Architectural Retrofit of Educational Buildings Towards Nearly Zero Energy and Cost Optimal Levels Considering the Life Cycle and Occupant Comfort," received the Most Successful Thesis Award of 2020.
Dr. Moazzen has been a researcher in the "H2020-LC-SC3-2020-Joint-Actions-1: procuRE - Pre-commercial Procurement of Breakthrough Solutions for 100% Renewable Energy Supply in Buildings" project. She was also a member of the energy analysis team at Istanbul Technical University, where she contributed to the design of Turkey's first Super EcoCity, a project supported by the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
Between 2008 and 2012, Dr. Moazzen gained valuable experience as an Architect and Construction Project Designer, which deepened her knowledge of construction methodologies and project implementation. She has authored and co-authored over 30 articles and papers in reputable journals and conferences. Additionally, she has been involved in various LEED projects as a senior energy modeler at Ekomim Ecological Architecture Company.
