Neville's route into Higher Education was non typical having commenced as an engineering apprentice at THORN, where he performed a number of roles in facilities and projects supporting a large scale manufacturing facility. Leaving industry for a role in further education, he worked as a senior lecturer and was latterly curriculum manager covering engineering, construction and computing programme areas. Neville has been a Senior Lecturer at Teesside University since 2011 and is the course lead for the undergraduate BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme and the Degree Apprenticeship standard, Electrical or Electronic Technical Support Engineer. In addition to course level responsibilities Neville also leads a number of modules. These are predominantly Electrical Power related but he has also experience of PLC and Principles focused modules. During his time at Teesside University Neville has been involved in a number of progamme accreditation and full programme review events.
Neville was part of the organising committee of the prestigous electrical power engineering conference, UPEC, which was hosted at Teesside University in 2021. Neville has co-authored papers on renewable energy systems and academic programme development.
