Academic Biography
Dr. Nnamdi Nwahara is a Research Associate at the National Horizons Centre, Teesside University, specializing in bioinorganic complexes for photomedicine and nanomaterial-based biosensors for biomedical applications. He holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry/Nanotechnology, with a focus on photochemistry and bioorganic chemistry, from Rhodes University. His doctoral research explored hypoxia-targeted photodynamic therapy (PDT) using porphyrinoid complexes and nanomaterial conjugates, bridging organic synthesis, photophysics, and biomedical applications. Dr. Nwahara is currently focused on developing nanomaterial-based immunoassays for disease diagnostics, integrating surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and fluorescence sensing to enhance sensitivity and specificity. His research aims to advance theranostic platforms, combining molecular diagnostics with targeted therapy through the use of innovative bioinorganic complexes and nanomaterials.
