Within Business Studies, Obafemi's expertise lies in Management Science and the diagnostic thinking that soft - OR provides in the areas of Human and Organisational Knowledge Management, Service Operations Management, Business Finance; Performance Measurement and Strategic Management. He has a BSc (Hons) in Banking and Finance from Olabisi Onabanjo University Nigeria and MSc in Business Analysis and Consulting from University of Strathclyde Business School Glasgow, United Kingdom. He also holds a PhD in Management Science from the University of Strathclyde, Department of Management Science Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow UK. Obafemi has an MBA with specialisation in Banking and Strategic Financial Management from ESUT Business School. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers Nigeria and Associate, Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment United Kingdom.
Obafemi’s academic accomplishments extend his expertise beyond Business Studies, while also helping to enhance his thinking in teaching and research.
Before joining the Teesside University Business School, Obafemi was a Doctoral Researcher/Tutor in the Department of Management Science, University of Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow UK; Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Management and Social Studies, Elizade University Ilara Mokin, Nigeria; and Lecturer and Business Skills Trainer at Business Executives Academy. He held a variety of academic responsibilities that included Course Director, mostly focusing on research, teaching and learning excellence. Obafemi has considerable experience in designing and delivering lectures on service productivity, business finance and accounting, project planning and research skills, performance measurement and management, managing operations, employability and entrepreneurship for both UG and PG levels and work-based learning.
Obafemi's research concentrates on a number of inter-related areas, including human and organisational knowledge management, subsets of knowledge workers and their lived experiences of service productivity, performance management and measurement, and entrepreneurship/entrepreneurial leadership studies. In recent times, He has developed a new way of doing phenomenological research named ‘Trans Positional Cognition Approach’ which is available for use by the research community.
Before joining academia from industry, Obafemi, a multi-award winner, worked for over a decade in the banking, accounting and finance sectors for organisations such as Commerce Bank plc and Sterling Bank plc (formerly Magnum Trust Bank plc) in Nigeria, as Group Head / Business Development Director; and also as Deputy Group Financial Controller, Management Accountant and Head of Finance Department for New Horizon UK, FNMS Consulting Edinburgh, and I J Mellis INC Scotland, United Kingdom.
