Academic Biography

Obafemi's expertise lies in Management Science and the diagnostic thinking that soft - OR provides to solve organisational messy strategic and service operations problems. An active researcher and author, his latest work is the initiation of a new qualitative research method, with a step by step guide for implementation named Trans Positional Cognition Approach. Obafemi is also co-author of the book; Using Balanced scorecard to improve organisational performance: a toolkit for executives.

Obafemi, a multiple outstanding lecturer award winner, has over a decade of teaching and module development experience, at Higher Education and Executive Education institutions both in Nigeria and United Kingdom. He is currently DBA Course Leader at the Teesside University International Business School. UK

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Banking and Finance from Olabisi Onabanjo University Nigeria and an MSc in Business Analysis and Consulting degree from the University of Strathclyde Business School Glasgow, United Kingdom. He also holds a PhD in Management Science from the University of Strathclyde, Department of Management Science Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow UK. Obafemi also holds an MBA with a specialisation in Banking and Strategic Financial Management from ESUT Business School.

He holds a teaching qualification, a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), UK,  a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers Nigeria and an Associate, Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment United Kingdom.  

Obafemi’s academic and professional accomplishments extend his expertise beyond Management Science, helping to enhance his teaching pedagogy, consultancy work and research approaches. His expertise includes financial analysis, Knowledge exchange opportunities, Business greening advisory services,  Business management innovation and Soft OR Modelling.

Before joining the Teesside University International Business School, Obafemi was a PhD Candidate / Tutor in the Department of Management Science, University of Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow UK; Lecturer at the Department of Management and Social Studies, Elizade University Ilara Mokin, Nigeria; and Lecturer and Business Skills Trainer at Business Executives Academy. Previous academic responsibilities included Course Director at Elizade University, Principal Lecturer, Teaching and Learning at Business Executives Academy. Obafemi also has experience as a multiple module leader, multiple academic committee memberships including Student's Recruitment and Marketing and Research and Ethics Sub Committees amongst others.

Before joining academia from industry, Obafemi, a multi-management award winner, worked for over a decade in the banking, accounting and finance sectors for organisations such as Commerce Bank plc and Sterling Bank plc (formerly Magnum Trust Bank plc) in Nigeria, as Group Head / Business Development Director; and also as Deputy Group Financial Controller, Management Accountant and Head of Finance Department for New Horizon UK, FNMS Consulting Edinburgh, and I J Mellis INC Scotland, United Kingdom.
