Academic Biography
Obafemi holds a PhD in Management Science from The University of Strathclyde Business School, Department of Management Science, and a blend of industry and academic experience that spans over two decades. He was a former NGX-quoted Bank Regional Director, Business Development Director at Sterling Bank Plc (Magnum Bank Plc), Nigeria, and Deputy Group Financial Controller at New Horizon Inc., UK, a Multinational organisation. Obafemi is a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) of CABS; Fellow, Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB), Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and also holds Visiting Research and Teaching Academic roles at International Universities. Obafemi has supervised several doctoral students (PhD/DBA) to completion and also has considerable experience examining doctoral students (PhD/DBA) at Viva as an Internal examiner and External Examiner for both international and local Universities, including the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN, England, UK), University of West Scotland, etc. He is currently on the Academic Course Leadership Team for the DBA programme, Sustainability and Regulatory Frameworks and Research Methods for Doctoral Students (TUO). An experiential learning enthusiast Obafemi has considerable curriculum development and teaching experience that includes, but is not limited to, Course / Programme and Module Leadership (TNE/Online/On-campus), TNE International Partnerships Support Lead, Principal Investigator, Director of Studies, Research Project Leadership, Course Administration and Curriculum Development and Innovation, Module and Curriculum Learning Materials Development. Some of the courses developed include Research Methods for Doctoral Students, Sustainability and Service Innovation, Sustainability and Regulatory Frameworks for PG students, a 13-week booth camp style 'Becoming Successful Post Graduation Programme' for UG Honours Year Students, etc.
Obafemi is a focused, committed and entrepreneurial-minded researcher and has served on several academic leadership and committee membership positions. His research aims to apply rigorous academic tools to explore issues of interest to academia, practitioners and policymakers. He is particularly adept at presenting complex ideas in non-technical language to a general audience to ensure clarity and impact. Obafemi is passionate about research-informed teaching. His research interests span Business Performance Measurement and Management, Sustainability and Climate Change, and Contemporary issues. A certified Executive Education and Business Skills Trainer, Obafemi's work proffers solutions that have an impact on the world around us through working collaboratively & interdisciplinary to, for example, help c-suite executives and managers make better decisions and ensure sustainable viability management of their organisations for the benefit of individual employees, society and communities. He adopts management science diagnostic thinking, which includes the adoption of TPCA methodology to solve messy organisational sustainability and business performance challenges. His ongoing SME sustainability project (as Principal investigator) is titled 'SMEs & Netzero Global Agenda; Moderating and Mediating Effect of Green Innovation.
Obafemi is the initiator of a novel research method analytical tool, named Trans Positional Cognition Approach (TPCA), which is in use internationally by students, lecturers, consultants and industry practitioners. Additionally, based on his recent research, Obafemi recently proposed a new approach for Measuring Employees' Productivity named the 'Managerial Employee Productivity Operational Definition (MePOD) framework. Obafemi is a keynote speaker, author of books, conference papers and journal articles that include a business performance innovation workbook titled: Using Balanced scorecard to improve organisational performance: a toolkit for executives.
Obafemi has produced several PhD/DBA/MBA/MSC/BA/BSC students who are today in managerial, senior management and executive roles both in Africa, Asia, Europe and America, making a difference. Obafemi is happy to receive prospective DBA/PhD students' proposals in the area of Business Performance Management & Measurement, Organisational Behaviour, Leadership, Sustainability & Innovation, SMEs & Environment and Finance, Green Thinking & Net Zero Global Agenda.
