Academic Biography

Paul spent 14 years working as a newspaper reporter in the North East after gaining a BA (Hons) Politics and History at Manchester. He undertook training with the National Council for the Training of Journalists before starting a career as a trainee reporter on The Hartlepool Mail. Paul then moved to The Sunderland Echo as a crime reporter and worked on high profile murder cases. He was promoted to Chief Reporter before moving to the production side of newspapers when he became Deputy News Editor. At the Newcastle Journal he became Head of Content (News Editor) responsible for deciding the best stories of the day and daily allocating work to over 40 journalists. Paul won four journalism awards - one regional, two national and one international award for his news stories. He has an MA in Bimedia Journalism with Merit from The University of Leeds.
