Academic Biography

Peixun Zhou is a Scientific Experimental Officer at the National Horizons Centre (NHC), and works on research, collaboration, teaching and training, as well as supporting facilities at NHC including flow cytometry and confocal microscopy.

Peixun has extensive experience in various molecular and cellular skills such as multi-colour flow cytometry, confocal fluorescence imaging, Raman confocal microscopy, gene editing with CRISPR/Cas9, mammalian cell culture, real-time quantitative PCR, gel electrophoresis and Sanger sequencing, Western blotting, cytogenetics, and next-generation sequencing, as well as experimental design, data analysis and troubleshooting.

Peixun has been working on various collaborative research projects with academic and industrial partners, and also providing trainings to academics and PhD students at NHC as well as to industrial collaborators through CPD training courses.

Peixun has a PhD from the University of Glasgow and over 6 years of post-doctoral research at Newcastle University, gaining extensive experience while working on various types of cancers.

My research interests are:

  1. Novel cancer treatment and therapeutics.
  2. Biomarker identification and risk stratification in cancer.
  3. Genomic abnormalities and their functional roles in cancer development and progression.
