Personal profile

Academic Biography

I have 16 years clinical experience working as an occupational therapist in a variety of fields including; ME/CFS, spinal injuries, head injuries, stroke, acute medicine, orthopaedics, and community mental health.  During my time in clinical practice I also had experience of working in a learning and development role, leading a project to design, develop, and deliver a Trust Preceptorship programme for Allied Health Professions.

As a senior lecturer I lead the BSc Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship standard and previously acted as Admissions Lead for the Occupational Therapy programmes.   As course lead for the apprenticeship I have engaged in a range of CPD activities to familiarise myself with the complexity of the apprenticeship delivery.  I have implemented a number of developments in response to partner feedback and continue to strive for quality and excellence.

I teach and lead modules across the BSc, BSc apprenticeship, and MSc occupational therapy programmes, as well as the foundation degree for associate practitioners.  I supervise students undertaking the MSc in advanced clinical practice, and provide dissertation support to students on the occupational therapy programmes.  I have particular expertise in the condition of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), and as such I teach on the subject across other programmes in the School of Health and Life Sciences.

I am a member of the schools People and Culture Committee which strives to promote and deliver a positive workplace for staff and students.  Several workstreams are hosted by the committee and I am involved in the development of apprenticeship delivery group.  Additionally, I serve as the schools Equality and Inclusion representative for the central university EI group.

I am a lifelong member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) and maintain my Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as an Occupational Therapist.

I was nominated for the universitys STAR awards in 2024 under the category of Excellence in Teaching.

Summary of Research Interests

My research interests are concerned with the condition Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), in particular the rehabilitation of those with the condition, and their difficulties accessing health care and sustaining employment.  I am a member of the British Association of Clinicians in CFS/ME (BACME) and recently a member of the North East Fatigue Research Network (NEFRN).

Learning and Teaching Interests and Activities
