Richard has over 15 years’ experience in the use of educational technology and has worked with learners from primary age to higher education. Having worked for Middlesbrough Council, Middlesbrough City Learning Centre and Teesside University through a period of rapid digital change he has gained valuable insight into how students learn using different types of technology both in and away from the traditional classroom environment.
Richard played a key role in a pilot scheme introducing a number of secondary school students in the area to Virtual Learning Environments and “social learning”, allowing them to use online learning tools and methods of interaction already instilled in a generation of digital natives. His passion for all things digital led him to Teesside University where he currently supports the use of technology in Learning and Teaching across campus, advising staff through Technology Enhanced Learning to provide an inclusive and value added experience for students.
He currently leads development on blogs.tees, a WordPress based blogging and CMS platform with over 350 sites and 1800 users. blogs.tees enables staff and students at Teesside University to rapidly develop a digital space to facilitate learning & teaching and resource sharing across a wide range of disciplines. His role also includes the day to day management and development of a mobile device project that provides Apple iPads to staff for use with students. The project also gives support to staff to help them introduce mobile technology into their teaching and to enhance the student experience.
