Academic Biography
Bob Imbur is Senior Student Success Tutor for Academic Writing in the SLAR Student Success Programme. As lead tutor for the Academic Writing strand, Bob works with his fellow Senior Tutors to provide programme leadership and direction for the SSP. Bob also works with individual students to support their Academic Writing skill deficiencies, with the goal of empowering students to become custodians of their own writing, thus strengthening their engagement and success at Teesside University.
As an Academic Writing practitioner with 30 years of combined experience teaching English at the secondary and university levels, Bob has provided individualised and classroom instruction to students in a variety of institutions across multiple countries. Bob's previous appointments include Temporary Teacher of English for South Ayrshire Council from 2020-2021, Senior Lecturer in English and Writing Centre Faculty Consultant at the University of Toledo (Ohio, USA) from 2005 to 2019, and Teacher of English at Penn High School (Indiana, USA) from 1994-2005. Bob has presented conference papers on Writing Centres and Writing Centre pedagogy for the International Writing Centres Association (IWCA) and East Central Writing Centres Association (ECWCA). He has received multiple awards in recognition of teaching excellence, including the Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship, and the University of Toledo's Student Impact Award.
