He has been actively involved in the development of curriculum and teaching material, as well as teaching a number of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, such as Computer-Aided Analysis, Engineering Design and CAD, CADCAM & Product Development, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and he has actively engaged and mentored final year project dissertation students to make them more employable, with a view to progression to internships, Collaborative Innovations Projects (CIPs) or Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs).
Sajid holds external examining positions at UK Universities to ensure institutions are maintaining the expectation of the UK Quality Code for Higher Education. Sajid also has valuable overseas international teaching practice and experience, working closely with our Chinese collaborative partners. He has acted as reviewer for the international FAIM conference, published by Elsevier.
Sajid's current areas of interest are: The tools used to improve productivity within a manufacturing environment. Rapid Product Development & Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing), Reverse Engineering and Inspection Techniques using both Laser and contact Scanning, Simulation using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Design for “X”, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Member with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and a Fellow in The Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He holds the professional status of Certified Solidworks Professional (CSWP).
Sajid’s career spans around 20 years in design engineering and product development roles. He has been involved with several high profile regional (north east UK) and national collaborative projects such as: Regional CAE, CADCAM Centre, B2B Manufacturing Centre, CPE-ASET and Institute for Automotive & Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP)-Digital Factory Project. He has also engaged on several commercial projects delivering PLM, CADCAM, Simulation training and business improvement (ROI) consultancy. Over the duration of the projects, Sajid has actively engaged and delivered beneficial assistance to external clients, such as 3M, Nissan, BAE systems, Wellstream, NAREC, Smith Electric Vehicles, Miller UK and Kingspan.
He has industrial experience in engineering, design, 3D CAD modelling, PLM and manufacturing sectors ranging from off-highway vehicle, automotive (BIW & Trim), to research & development in X-ray diffraction equipment industries. Sajid has held employment positions at: Burdon Engineering, Hashimoto Limited, Cadtek Systems, Caterpillar, Komatsu UK, Jordan Valley formerly Bede Scientific Instruments Ltd, and University of Sunderland (Automotive & Manufacturing Advanced Practice - AMAP).
