Academic Biography

Dr Sally Neaum has worked as a nursery and primary school teacher, an early years and inclusion advisory teacher and an OFSTED inspector of early years provision.

In higher education, Sally has been involved in assessing Early Years Professional Status (now EYITT) and teaching and tutoring students on initial teacher training programmes. She currently teaches a number of undergraduate modules on early literacy and inclusion and diversity. Sally also teaches on a range of post- graduate programmes and is an academic supervisor at both masters and doctoral level.

Sally has a masters degree in Educational Psychology and Special Educational Needs and her doctoral research was in the pedagogy of early literacy. Sally has published a number of books on child development, early literacy and children’s literature. Her current areas of research and publication are children’s engagement with literacy provision, pedagogical approaches to young children's learning, and early learning experiences that lead into school-based phonics teaching.
