Academic Biography

Samantha began her career working for Cleveland Police, before training in Crime Scene Examination and also Serious and Organised Crime. This has led her to a BSc (Hons) in Investigative Studies and an MSc in Criminal Investigation from Teesside University. After studying for her PGCE in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, Samantha is now a Senior Lecturer in Law, Policing & Criminal Investigation and also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Samantha has taught on a range of specialist learning and development programmes, in partnership with law enforcement agencies, as well as traditional undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including, BSc(Hons) Crime and Investigation, BSc(Hons) Policing and Investigation, BSc(Hons) Death Investigation and MSc Criminal Investigation.

She is a module leader and tutor for a number of investigative modules and also the Programme Leader for BSc(Hons) Policing and Investigation degree, which is an on-line programme aimed primarily at Police Officers and those from a law enforcement background, who need to fit study around their work and family life.

Summary of Research Interests

Research interests are in the area of Fingerprint analysis and Investigative Interviewing, particularly in relation to the interviewing of ‘good character suspects’. Samantha’s research in the area of fingerprint forgery and fraud has been published in the International Journal for the Fingerprint Society and she has also co-wrote a book with her colleagues on working in Policing. She is also a member of the International Investigative Interviewing Research Group.
