Academic Biography
Dr. Shamaila Gull currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in Business at TUIBS. She holds a doctorate degree in Sustainable Business with a focus on collaborative learning and sustainability culture as impetus to corporate sustainability. She also holds a Master’s degree with a specialization in Marketing.
Being a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), she is committed to excellence in teaching and learning in higher education. Her academic portfolio spans a diverse range of subjects across Sustainability, HRM, Organizational Behavior and digital transformation, underpinned by her interdisciplinary expertise and pedagogical innovation.

Enterprise Interest and Activities
Shamaila has been engaged with local industry partners thourgh guest speakers invitations and students projects. She has supervised projects in collaboration with companies like AV Dawson, Enterprise mobility, Stuff for life and Emmissis. Previously, she has worked as an action-researcher with partner organizations from textile sector in a developing economy to deliver training sessions introducing collaborative learning as a mean to induce relational space among employees. She has done an applied research project with Interloop Ltd which is a world leading textile exporter under a funded project. The project facilitated the organization to augment its sustainability initiatives and it was later presented at an International Conference in Groningen University, the Netherlands. A Dutch researcher has cited her approach in his recently published book.
She has a keen interest in partnering with Entrepreneurial leaders to help them in embracing sustainability as an integral business strategy. She is actively engaged in promoting and executing Athena Swan Charter at Teesside University.

PhD and Research Opportunities
Dr Shamaila welcomes enquiries from prospective doctoral researchers interested in business sustainability, responsible management, and sustainable entrepreneurship. She has successfully supervised 2 doctoral dissertations and 4 are in progress. Her research focuses on how organisations embed sustainability into strategy, innovation, and organisational practices to support long-term resilience and responsible value creation.

- Corporate sustainability and stakeholder governance
She is particularly interested in research that bridges academic theory with real organisational challenges and contributes to the development of sustainable and responsible business practices. Doctoral research in these areas aligns with key priorities within the UK research landscape, including initiatives supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and research themes relevant to the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

External Roles and Professional Activities
Dr Shamaila is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the British Academy of Management (BAM), the leading professional body for management research and scholarship in the United Kingdom. She currently serves as an Academic Governor (2025–2029) at Outwood Academy Normanby, UK, where she contributes to educational governance and strategic oversight.
Previously, she served as an Elected Member of the Senate (2019–2022) at the University of the Punjab. Earlier, she held a historic role as the first-ever female elected Member of the Board of Governors (Syndicate) at the same university, serving two consecutive terms from 2011 to 2017. She actively promoted the inclusion of female teaching community participation in decision-making statutory bodies.
Dr Shamaila has also contributed to the Postgraduate Research Committee at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, supporting the development of future researchers. In addition, she has served as an Advisor to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), Pakistan, a public-sector organisation responsible for recruiting officers for administrative and local body positions in the province of Punjab.
