Academic Biography

Siew joined Teesside University in 2020 and she has been involved in different funded research projects in thermal management for the electric machines before. After receiving her Ph.D. from Liverpool John Moores University in 2013, she worked as an application and development Engineer (KTP Associate) for the axial flux electric machine cooling methods and electric machine design at Oxford Brookes University and YASA Motors Ltd.

In 2015, she joined Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow for the HVEMS project. This is an APC funded project that leads by JLR. Together with eight different industrial and academic partners, facilities for the electric machine manufacturing line were developed at University of Warwick.  After 2 years working for the project, she joined the School of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Automotive Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing, Coventry, U.K.

Siew’s research focuses mainly on thermal management and cooling techniques for existing and new develop the electric machine. This includes improving the efficiency of the existing motors by enhancing the cooling system to increase its reliability, developing new cooling methods, benchmarking electric machines. Throughout modeling techniques and experiment validation, improving and modification on the existing design allowed to be made at the initial stage of the design.

Siew also interested in condition monitoring for machines. She worked several years in grinding machine for developing a control strategy for in-process roundness monitoring. Data acquisition and analysis from a series of experimental studies, she managed to identify the interrelation of machining parameters and finishing products. She then implemented this into the in-process monitoring strategy.
