Academic Biography
Professor Simon Hodgson is Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Teesside University and Professor of Advanced Materials
His specialist research field is in the area of inorganic and organic-inorganic hybrid functional materials, coatings and nanocomposites by sol-gel, soft chemistry and related approaches together with their associated manufacturing processes. This has included the development of insulating coatings with high thermal and electrical performance, as well as range of novel materials/coatings to impart new or enhanced functionality - with a particular focus on aerospace and electrical machine applications. Much of the research that he has undertaken throughout his career has been focussed on the development of materials and processes for industrial applications and his research has included collaborations with a wide range of companies including multi-nationals such as Rolls-Royce, Safran Power, Dyson and LG-Philips.
