Academic Biography

Dr Srotoswini Kar obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from University of Calcutta (India). She received her PhD in chemistry from Georgetown University (USA). She was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Liverpool (UK), and has since worked as a lecturer in chemistry, most recently at the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (China), until finally joining Teesside University in 2023. In addition to having an extensive teaching experience, she has made several noteworthy scholarly contributions, including publications in peer-reviewed journals, and co-authoring chemistry textbooks.

Her research interests include:

  1. Design and synthesis of novel inorganic materials (bulk and nano) via bench top and air-sensitive techniques.
  2. Study their properties (thermal, optical , electronic, and magnetic).
  3. Investigate their potential applications in the field of technology and biology.
  4. Special areas - d block, f block, and main group elements.
