Dr Stephen Asafo-Agyei is currently a Senior Business Tutor and the Senior Lead for the Business degrees at Teesside University London, with responsibility for academic leadership, curriculum development, and student engagement.
Dr Asafo-Agyei holds a PhD in Development Studies/Economics from the Lisbon School of Economics at the University of Lisbon, Portugal–, an MSc in Development Studies from London South Bank University. UK, a BEd in Education degree from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCert LTHE) from Teesside University. His multidisciplinary academic background underpins his dynamic approach to teaching and research, which bridges Development Economics, International Business Management, International business Strategy and Higher Education pedagogy.
He has held academic appointments at several UK institutions, including Glasgow Caledonian University, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and LPTC/St Mary’s University Twickenham London. Internationally, he served as a Visiting Lecturer in Development Economics at Universidade Católica de Angola, Luanda-Angola, contributing to global academic collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Dr Asafo-Agyei specialises in development economics, international business strategy, and responsible leadership. His scholarly work reflects his commitment to applied research, inclusive pedagogy, and academic innovation. Under his leadership, Teesside University London business department has seen notable improvements in academic standards, and student engagement in teaching and learning.
Dr. Asafo-Agyei has advanced innovative educational strategies, notably integrating virtual reality into teaching at various institutions and organizing guest speaker series at Teesside University London focused on Sustainable Development Goals and Responsible Leadership. His work emphasizes workforce enrichment courses and industry-aligned curricula to bridge academia and practice, promoting professional development and enterprise collaboration.
Additionally, as co-founder of UltraSynergy, a UK-based consultancy, he provides strategic solutions in tax advisory, accounting, economic policy, and educational consultancy, serving diverse individuals and organizations.

He explores how AI, IoT, and digitalisation shape cross-border e-commerce and digital market entry strategies, while examining automation’s impact on labor markets, including productivity, wage inequality, and organizational structures in global firms. His work investigates reverse innovation in emerging economies, focusing on strategic adaptations and global innovation transfer. Additionally, he studies decolonising the circular economy from an African perspective and responsible leadership within the Global South, advancing inclusive and sustainable economic frameworks.
