Personal profile
Academic Biography
My career started as an apprentice Draughtsman in the construction industry, with Conder Structures where I gained experience in all aspects of design, fabrication and erection of steel framed structures. Projects included Gatwick Airport, Sheffield University, Teesside Park and the Metro Centre.
I then entered Higher Education as a mature student and studied a degree in Interior Architecture where I began using 3d computer graphics as a means of visualising architectural designs.
After graduating, I worked in an architectural practice before moving to the Virtual Reality Centre, where I further developed my skills in 3d graphics, initially as an artist and then later as an animator and project manager.
During my time at the VR Centre, I managed a number of high value projects. Leading a team of artists and programmers I was involved in every facet of project delivery, including project scoping, specification, contract negotiation, content creation, project management, quality assurance, client delivery and project closure.
I also studied a Masters in Computer Animation at this time, graduating in 2003 & shortly afterwards I started teaching part-time at Teesside University.
Whilst teaching, I worked as Business Development Manager for the School of Computing and the School of Arts & Media. My role was to help develop the Schools' enterprise portfolios, establish industrial links and identify IP with commercial potential.
I was closely involved in the development of IP for a number of global brand owners and am a named inventor on a patent for a device developed by Iain Spears and Wen Tang, colleagues in the University. The patent covers a computer input device providing 6 degrees of freedom from a single image input device.
I was appointed as a full-time lecturer in Games Animation in 2009.
I gained 'PRINCE 2 Approved Trainer' status from APM Group in 2010 and am now delivering PRINCE2 training at Foundation and Practitioner level at Teesside University.
