Academic Biography

Valeria is the Course Leader for both the BEng (Hons) and MEng (Hons) Civil Engineering  programmes.

As a Senior Lecturer in the School of  Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies, Valeria  teaches a variety of modules including “Sustainable Construction”, "Sustainable Construction and Materials", “Group Project-Conceptual Design Stage”, “Construction Management and Contracts” and “Procurement and Contract Strategies”.

After obtaining her MEng in Civil Engineering from Cagliari University in Italy, Valeria completed an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development at Cambridge University. This programme, which explored the wider implications of engineering, including the social, environmental and economic impacts of civil engineering projects, contributed to complement her technical expertise.

Assignments have ranged from the design of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) for a light industrial development in Keith (Aberdeenshire) to coordinating a team of specialists (civil and M&E engineers, hydrologists and environmental) on a major nationwide study providing strategic review of Scottish Water’s ‘Water Resource Zones’ identified by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) as potentially requiring intervention to satisfy the legal obligations of the Water Framework Directive in a challenging timescale and ahead of Europe.
