Academic Biography

Dr. Zubair Imam Syed is working as a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering with the School of Science Engineering and Design. Previously, he held academic positions in UAE, Malaysia, Australia and Bangladesh. He was a recipient of prestigious Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) from the University of Melbourne, Australia to pursue his PhD degree in Structural Engineering.

He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and member (MIEAust.) of Engineers Australia. He is also an active member of different professional bodies including American and Australian concrete institutes.  

Dr. Syed has over 10-year experience of teaching Civil and Structural engineering subjects for undergraduate and post-graduate students. He has successfully supervised many post-graduate research projects in UAE and Malaysia. He is an active researcher in areas of Structural Failure Analysis and Dynamics, Offshore Structures, Innovative Construction Materials and Advanced Numerical Modelling. He has published extensively in international journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. He regularly received research grants from external and internal sources as a Principal investigator. To mention, he received competitive research grants from the Ministry of Education Malaysia and Abu Dhabi Education and Knowledge department (ADEK Research Excellence’ grant).

Dr. Syed acted as the secretary of 2nd International Conference on Civil, Offshore & Environmental Engineering held at Kuala Lumpur in 2014. He is often involved in various forums and conferences at different capacities including keynote speaker. He is also a regular reviewer for top tier international journals in his area of expertise.
