Description
This research initiative aims to further PAFA’s and AAFA’s vision to develop and engage in global knowledge and solutions on issues with direct effect on African economy, society, and the profession. Building on previous collaborations, the initiative draws on the shared view that there is a significant gap in evidenced-based African accounting and finance research on several issues of interest to practitioners, financial regulators, academia, and policymakers. Furthermore, funding for such research is limited, and there is limited opportunity for accounting academics to deepen their experience and engagement with policy-making organisations. PAFA seeks to pursue partnerships with academics in Universities in Africa and the African Diaspora by funding research that will, aim to address the current challenges and agenda to be discussed at the next Africa Congress of Accountants’ (ACOA) 2025, focusing on the implications of sustainability reporting and assurance.
PAFA and AAFA will thus collaborate in identifying, reviewing, and funding research projects that are of direct interest to practitioners, financial regulators, academia, and policymakers, with the involvement of colleagues who have proven expertise, through a scheme referred to as the 2024-2025 Africa Call for Accounting and Finance Research Initiative (2024-2025 ACAFRI). Specifically, this initiative will benefit PAFA, Professional Accountants, Recognised Supervisory Bodies (Accountancy Regulators), Professional Accountancy Organisations, academics, and the accountancy profession in Africa. It aims to provide relevant empirical evidence on diverse issues to inform and deepen PAFA’s advocacy and policy development activities in Africa. It will also enhance the profile, capacity, and performance of academics at universities in Africa. Generally, the initiative will enhance the relationship between the accountancy profession and academics (and their affiliated institutions) in Africa.
