Project Details
Description
This project proposes to use DAC materials (lysine and calcium oxide) to functionalise/activate hydrochar, enhancing the organic carbon in latter to directly capture, retain and permanently store additional carbon dioxide directly from air, as a stable carbonate. Hydrochar from different bio-wastes will be functionalised in two separate pre- and post-carbonisation steps. The resulting samples, called CalyChar will be characterised and tested in a specialised unit at various conditions for CO2 adsorption, retention, and storage performance. A predictive process model will be developed to identify optimal conditions for DAC and perpetuality of CO2 storage in CalyChar.
