Description

Connecting Research and Policymaking is a £5.9 million, multi-university initiative running from 2025–2028, funded by Research England with additional support from Economic and Social Research Council and UK Research and Innovation.

Led through the Universities Policy Engagement Network, the project brings together Teesside University and partners including the Institute for Government and the Wales Centre for Public Policy to strengthen collaboration between researchers and policymakers at local, regional, and national levels.

The project will:
* strengthen engagement between universities and policymakers
* support place-based policymaking through regional partnerships
* embed citizen engagement and community-informed approaches
* develop sustainable and resilient models of academic–policy collaboration

At Teesside University, the project is led by Prof Azadeh Fatehrad and this work is delivered through a place-based project focused on the North East of England, strengthening connections between research, local policy organisations, and communities to support more responsive, inclusive, and evidence-informed decision-making.
