Development and Performance characteristics of hydrogen ready industrial burners

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Heating buildings contributes to almost one-fifth of the UK’s total emission, with homes making its largest contribution. Meeting net zero will require decarbonising the way consumers heat their buildings, and most importantly a complete shift away from the dependency on natural gas. It has been concluded that hydrogen will make a big contribution to delivering low carbon and zero carbon in the heating sectors, including homes, shops, offices, and industries. Moreover, hydrogen heating can be delivered in buildings with minimal disruption to consumers. It is like-for-like replacement for existing gas boilers and operated in the similar fashion. The government is already supporting industry to conduct first-of-a-king hydrogen heating trials, including a village scale trial by 2025.

Warmatic Ltd have already achieved their industrial burner design with up to 70% by vol. hydrogen enriched performance. We aim to develop 100% hydrogen fuelled burner with like-to-like efficiency (if not more) with zero emissions. The project’s objectives encompass further development on hydrogen (up to 100%) accommodation to the burner including flame rectification, combustion, emissions, and performance assessment of industrial burner. This will provide innovation and market-ready product to join UK’s journey for decarbonising and achieving net zero agenda.
