Project Details
Description
This pump-priming project established the consortium and strategic foundations for a competitive Horizon Europe bid focused on low-cost biofuel generation from diverse biomass streams across multiple conversion pathways, targeting a zero waste and zero pollution scenario. Led by the Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre at Teesside University, the project brought together a UK-EU consortium with embedded Mission Innovation partners from India, Canada and Brazil, aligning country-specific net zero strategies with UK and EU approaches to bioenergy. The pump-priming phase supported in-person engagement with Mission Innovation country stakeholders, secured partner commitments, and established the consortium governance structure required for a credible Horizon Europe application. In doing so, it positioned the NZIIC as the lead institution bridging a multilateral international research coalition, directly advancing the University's strategic priority of facilitating international research and knowledge exchange on global clean energy challenges.
