Marine to Electric Power – SeNZe-Tech™ the Smart Way to Clear The Hurdles

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The SenZe-Tech Smart Marine Propulsion Project (funded by Innovate UK) proposes to develop and implement a complete & viable "well-to-wake" solution for a decarbonised propulsion concept for the vital, booming Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) market. With scalable, innovative smart shipping technologies that place data at the heart of Net-Zero decisions to optimize performance and planned maintenance, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to achieve decarbonisation and improve air quality. Many hurdles exist to "greening" the marine sector, and use of big data in real-time has not penetrated well, despite becoming the cornerstone for the development of all other modern transport sectors except Maritime. The project will start to develop a future demonstration (complete by 2027) of a joined-up, viable supply chain incorporating the storage of fuel on-board, its conversion to electric power & management thereof and encompassed with a dedicated shore bunkering on the North East Energy Park. Teesside University will lead technical development and implementation of cloud-based smart solutions for drivetrain sensing, energy efficiency assessment, and predictive maintenance focusing on software development and system integration.
